The Animal and Plant Environmental Sciences (APES) Post-Graduate Council celebrates Mother’s days with a small token of appreciation for mothers on campus.
Cleaning staff members at Wits University’s OLS Building were thanked for their contribution and hard work through a pre-mothers’ day celebration on Friday evening.
The Animal and Plant Environmental Sciences (APES) Post-graduate Council showed their appreciation for the work done by the staff by showering them with sweet treats and words of gratitude.

“This initiative was rolled out to appreciate motherhood on mother’s day,” said Hiral Naik, one of the members of the collaborative staff.
Jabulani Gazu, East Campus supervisor of Ukweza, said,“this was a surprise to me, it shows that the work that these ladies do on a daily basis is appreciated by the staff here. I would like to thank them for this gesture.”
Nontuthuzelo Sizani said “Ndiyavuya kakhulu! Ndonwabile,” (“I am very excited. This makes me happy”).
A statement from the PG council read, “To APES female cleaners to appreciate their efforts over the years and let them know they are cherished.”
The council also acknowledged students who are mothers: “We used this opportunity to acknowledge their dexterity in juggling motherhood with academic excellence whilst assuring them of a shoulder to lean on.”
